Making do with what you got is pretty much the redneck slogan and I’ve been doing it pretty much my whole life. Making something useful from junk. I had a bunch of old wood lying around and I repurposed it into some shelves, bookends, and wall art. I even made some candle stands from some old blocks. My inspiration y’all can pretty much guess…. The Magnolia Market website in Waco, TX.
A while back I would find free things on Craigslist and bring it home. I was hoarding junk. My wife got tired of it and told me no more. I stopped bringing stuff home but it sat collecting dust for years. After this year, I decided I would restore my wife’s home to its former glory. So I started making things that I had seen on the website my wife and I enjoy so much. http://www.magnolia.com
The website belongs to the couple that helped put Waco, TX back on the map. Chip and Joanna Gaines from HGTV Fixer Upper. We went back in October and we fell in love with the place. I don’t make a lot so I figured might as well put my redneck skills to use.
The projects I did were a success with my wife. She was happy to have things from her favorite show in her home at no cost. She also wants more shelves too. A lot of my inspiration comes from Chips book Capital Gaines. I bought It in Texas and finished it in two days. I recommend picking up this book. I also suggest watching Fixer Upper on Tuesday nights on HGTV. It’s the last season. Also, check out their collection at Target, Hearth and Hand.
It’s a lot of fun building these things and making my wife happy. Chip has inspired by showing me what a good husband looks like. After five years of marriage with my wife, I’m hoping for a lifetime of more.
